Goal
Merging African roots with European sophistication
Mikado was tasked with creating packaging designs for Nubian Queen's haircare and skincare products that would appeal to audiences across two continents - Europe and Africa. The brand wanted visually appealing packaging designs that captured the essence and aesthetics of the two cultures.
Challenges
Converging cultures that are worlds apart
The client wanted to capture a sizable market share in Europe and Africa. One of the major challenges was finding common elements, colors, and themes that captured the essence of two vastly different cultures. While Europe is known for its minimalism and sophistication, Africa is celebrated for its flamboyance. Finding the right elements that appealed to both markets was key to creating a unified design.

Delivering designs that spoke everyone's truth
We started the design process with in-depth research and by creating a design strategy based on the insights shared by the Nubian Queen's team as well as their market data. Our experts identified common elements, patterns, and then hand-drew illustrations. We chose culturally meaningful colors, used elements and ingredients that conveyed the brand's commitment to authenticity and sustainability.
For the African market, we designed the packaging using vibrant natural tones, while the designs for the European audience reflected minimalist hues. This approach helped us highlight Nubian Queen's core identity through design.
